Beyond Wonderland Bay Area 2014

It’s time for me to go back down the Rabbit Hole, to a place where love and happiness flourishes and beautiful people dance alongside each other with no judgment. Beyond Wonderland returns to the Bay Area for its second year, but this time it travels a new location, the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. When Insomniac Events released the lineup and BW13 trailer, it was without a doubt that I would be attending this festival. Was the $170 ticket worth it? Yes. The scenic and lighting designs, musical lineup, art installations, and interactive activities are all worth it. The experience at Beyond Wonderland Bay Area is a magical thing and I am glad to have witnessed the beauty of it all. You and I, the ravers, become Alice for two days and we will wish we never left Wonderland. Beyond Wonderland Bay Area 2013 was held on September 28 and 29 from 1pm-11pm, inviting more than 40,000 festival go-ers to a land far away.
Having taken a hiatus on raving, I was ecstatic to attend a festival just like how I remembered it a few years ago. PLUR. PLUR was everywhere. The people will make your experience at Beyond Wonderland, EDC, and just about any other festival. BW13 is a place where you can dress up in an outrageous outfit, only to fit in with the crowd. There were so many beautiful people, dressed in avante garde outfits and covered in rainbow-colored beads. I felt nothing but great vibes from everyone, even the staff and security. Beyond Wonderland is your home away from home. No matter how you are dressed or what you look like you will be accepted by everyone.
Transportation and lodging wasn’t a huge ordeal. My friends and I stayed at a local Mariott and commuted both days to and from the festival. The parking situation was well organized so we didn’t have to fret about finding a spot or staying in traffic for long hours after the event. Like other Insomniac shows, characters passed out giant cupcakes to lucky Headliners; and for this event, they passed out blue frosted cupcakes with ‘Eat Me.’ This really reinforced the fact that you were entering a Wonderland-an experience and treat everyone should enjoy.
The Queen’s Domain stage is one of the most beautiful stages anyone can ever experience at a festival. The Catepillar from Alice in Wonderland, the theme of the rave, sits on top of a mushroom and expels smoke out of his hookah and pipes spread throughout the backdrop. He serves as the focal point of the artistic masterpiece, looming over the DJ. Brilliant; this stage in conjunction with the characters frolicking the venue brought this festival to a new level. Wild mushrooms will grow on stage and off, LED land and sea animals surf through the crowd, and Alice in Wonderland characters roam through the venue greeting their guests. Madhatter’s Castle lacked the artistic element that Queen’s Domain had, but the 2000+ LED panels and 10+ lasers compensated. During W&W’s headlining performance, a plethora of green lasers illuminated the sea of kandi kids and ravers. Something new to the festival was the Kandi Store, a place where the festival go-ers can relax and craft Beyond Wonderland kandi right then and there. It’s just like being in a candy store, with millions of options you can choose from to satisfy your sweet tooth.
That is it. You have plenty of reasons to write down Beyond Wonderland Bay Area 2014 as a must-attend event on your bucket list. The pictures won’t say enough, you have everything you need to experience something greater…something more beautiful.
